For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink” Matthew 25:35
The mission of the John Street Baptist Church Soup Kitchen is to serve the Lord by providing good food to his people to nourish the body and the soul. Under the leadership of one of the founding member and President, Mrs. Marjorie Wilson, the Soup Kitchen has been feeding the public since 1983.
The soup kitchen is a warm and friendly place where families and individuals can come to sit, relax, and enjoy a nutritious meal. John Street The kitchen is open every Saturday from 7:00am to 12:30pm. The mornings begin with coffee, juice and breakfast pastries served from 7:00am to 10:30am. Hot meals are served from 10:30am to 12:30pm. The soup kitchen is staffed by a core group of volunteers from John Street Baptist Church. The full course lunch meals are cooked and served on a rotating schedule by John Street Baptist Church volunteers and by a faithful group of supporting churches and their volunteers. The Soup Kitchen serves an average of over 300 meals per month.
The John Street Baptist Church Soup Kitchen is also a food pantry. On the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of every month any person in need of groceries can come and select any food items they need from the grocery table. We will not turn away a person in need. If a person needs groceries on the alternating week, bags of food will be provided to them. The high cost of food has made it increasingly difficult for families and individuals to make ends meet. With the support of the Worcester County Food Bank, donations from John Street Baptist Church members, and other local churches our food pantry is able to meet the needs of over 150 requests per month.
